Zimbabwe records 13 suspected cholera deaths in 2 days

Zimbabwe recorded 13 deaths suspected to have been caused by cholera during the first two days of 2024, while 368 people are also suspected to have contracted the disease during the same period, official data showed.

Cholera situation reports released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care during the period showed that the number of suspected cases rose from 14,517 on Dec. 31 to 14,885 on Jan. 2.

Zimbabwe has been grappling with cholera after the current outbreak was declared on Feb. 12, 2023. Since then, 333 deaths, consisting of 67 confirmed cholera deaths and 266 suspected ones, have been recorded in the country.

As of Tuesday, 186 cases were hospitalized across the country with Harare Province having the highest number of suspected cases.
