Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe on Saturday suffered a minor ankle injury in a freak accident at the Harare International Airport, the state-run Sunday Mail newspaper reported Sunday.
The accident happened when the First Lady was about to leave the airport for home after returning from Singapore where she had accompanied her husband President Robert Mugabe for a routine medical check up.
The newspaper quoted presidential press secretary George Charamba as saying that the accident happened when the First Couple’s driver set the vehicle in motion before the First Lady had properly settled.
This resulted in the First Lady withdrawing her foot from the car and as she lost balance one shoe came off and was run over by a rear wheel.
“First Lady, Grace Mugabe, suffered some soft tissue bruising on the right ankle as a result of a freak car accident at the Harare International Airport early this morning. The accident happened as the First Couple, which had just alighted from an overseas trip, was about to leave the Harare International Airport for the Residence,” Charamba was quoted as saying.
He said the First Lady was treated at a local hospital and discharged Saturday.
According to Charamba, doctors confirmed Grace Mugabe did not suffer major injury.
The First Lady is now recovering at home. Enditem
