The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has issued a caution to journalists to exercise caution and integrity in their reporting as Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections, scheduled for December 7.

As the Electoral Commission (EC) conducts a nationwide voters’ register exhibition, the MFWA has called on journalists to adopt a more interrogative and curious approach in their reporting.

This advice aims to ensure accurate and responsible information dissemination during the election period.

Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of MFWA, highlighted concerns about politicians exploiting the media for propaganda.

He emphasized the importance of not allowing such misuse of the media and urged journalists to remain vigilant against falsehoods and biased rhetoric.

In a statement on his X platform, Braimah said, “Fellow journalists, as we draw closer to the elections, let’s not serve as conveyor belts and megaphones for the propaganda, falsehoods, and vile rhetoric of our politicians who mainly seek power to loot from the state.”

He further urged, “Let’s be interrogative, inquisitive, and critical in our reporting.”

The MFWA’s call underscores the critical role of the media in upholding democratic principles and ensuring a fair electoral process.
