Some prominent members of the Osu?Traditional area?have raised accusing fingers at the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Nii Afotey Abo?for using his position and close links with the presidency to destabilize the traditionally structured manner of the succession to the Osu stool.
According to them, as far as the chieftaincy administrative structure is concerned, installation and enstoolment of traditional office holders is done by the kingmakers with the concurrence of the Traditional Council, the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the police in collaboration with the Traditional Councils ensures security and the maintenance of peace in all the thirteen (13) traditional areas, within the Greater Accra Region, which includes Osu Traditional Area.
However, they alleged that the Greater Accra Minister used his position and influence as the chairman of (REGSEC) to facilitate the installation of one Ishmael Adumua who was a former NDC organiser for the Korle Klottey Constituency and a campaign manager for Hon. Nii Armah Ashitey during the 2012 general elections as Osiahene for Osu Kinkawe.
They averred that his purported installation was not done by the kingmakers of Osu Kinkawe and even the family members of Omaboe We.
During his purported installation the kingmakers and the Traditional Council sent series of protest to the police but their entire request fell on deaf ears and instead of the police to collaborate with the Traditional Council to ensure peace rather gave protection for the purported installation with the alleged blessing of Hon Afotey Agbo claiming that it was a family activity.
Currently, the installation of Ishmeal Adumua as Osiahene is before the Judicial Committee of the Osu Traditional Council pending judgment.
According to the Osu youth and traditional elders, to ensure peace in the Greater Accra Region, now, during the Homowo festivities and at any other time REGSEC must include the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs Registrar who would advise them on Chieftaincy issues in the region because they are the authority in Chieftaincy affairs.
This, they indicated will help bring peace and stability in the Greater Accra Region.
Meanwhile when Hon Afotey Agbo was contacted, he declined to make comments o the matter.
According to him he doesn’t care.
