Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, has underscored his commitment to enhancing Ghana’s infrastructure with a focus on aviation.

At the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on August 18, Bawumia detailed the development plans for the Cape Coast Airport and a new airport in the Upper East Region, both pivotal for regional growth.

Bawumia confirmed that the South Korean government has secured funding for the Cape Coast Airport through a US$2 billion facility.

This project aims to elevate tourism and trade in the Central Region by improving connectivity and reducing travel time for domestic and international visitors.

“The Cape Coast Airport has been a priority for us, and with the funding from the Korean facility, we are ready to break ground and begin construction,” Bawumia said. He emphasized the airport’s significance given Cape Coast’s historical and cultural importance as a major tourist destination.

In addition to the Cape Coast Airport, Bawumia revealed plans to establish an airport in the Upper East Region in collaboration with the private sector.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance economic opportunities in Ghana’s northern regions, improve regional integration, and facilitate better access to transportation.

“We want to ensure that every region of Ghana has access to world-class infrastructure. The Upper East Airport will be crucial in boosting trade, tourism, and investment in the northern sector of the country,” Bawumia stated.

He assured that both airports will be constructed to the highest quality and efficiency standards, meeting future air travel demands in Ghana.

Bawumia also noted that the projects will generate numerous jobs during both the construction and operational phases, significantly boosting local economies.
