Eight police officers and one male civilian were killed when gunmen launched an attack on a police station and a bank in the central Nigerian state of Kogi on Thursday, according to local media reports.
The police confirmed the attack on one of its facilities followed by a robbery incident on a bank in the town of Isanlu in the state but declined to comment on the number of casualties.
However, several local media outlets reported that several bodies were seen around the bank premises.
The official News Agency of Nigeria reported those killed include a divisional police officer in the town, five other policemen and two policewomen at the police station. The place was also completely destroyed, while detainees were freed.
The civilian victim was hit by a stray bullet at the bank when the gunmen attacked at about 1 p.m. local time.
Local sources said the gunmen arrived at the town in a commando-style, driving a bus and a car.
The police said they are already investigating the attack. Enditem
