The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, has appealed to Ghanaians to show compassion to potters, popularly known as ‘Kayayei’ in the country.

Speaking at a ceremony to endorse the Humanity Cup in aid of the Pamela Bridgewater village project at Tampion in the Savelgu/Nanton District, he said: “Humanity means charity and peace. We are all Ghanaians and should uphold the dignity of peace and harmony that has proudly characterized our democracy across the world.”

According to the organizers of the initiative, Kunata Voluntary Organization, the games would be played at the Baba Yara Stadium and Accra Stadium on different dates. They said the games would serve as an opportunity to unite politicians in the country towards the upcoming elections as well as raise funds for the village.

The General Secretary of PNC, Bernard Morna, condemned politics of insults and appealed to the government to provide opportunities for the girl child, especially those in the three northern regions who migrated to the south for non-existing jobs.

NPP chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey urged all and sundry to contribute towards the initiative, saying, “There is more blessing in giving than to receive.”

Alhassan Yahaya of Kunata Voluntary Organization, the institute that operates the Bridgewater project, thanked the leaders and the GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Dr K.K. Sarpong and Fred Crentsil.

He disclosed that he was currently waiting for the endorsement of Samia Nkrumah and PPP before sending the Humanity shirt to the world’s most popular house for the humanity, CUP.

Mr Alhassan described this year’s election as ‘kayayei election’, urging politicians to come out with manifestos that would be beneficial to countless street girls.

Hon Muhammad Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was very pleased with the on-going campaign of the girls, stating that the issue of ‘kayayei’ should be a prime concern to all.
