The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is holding a national consultative forum in Accra today under the theme “Africa’s Agriculture Green Revolution – Is Ghana on Track?”
This forum, which forms part of activities marking five years since its inception, aims at bringing together players in the agriculture value chain to deliberate on how to effectively operationalise the African Green Revolution in Ghana, and also to discuss the country’s readiness to implement a full-scale agricultural green revolution.
With the objective of working to increase productivity, profitability and sustainability of small farms across the agricultural value chain, this forum will provide a platform for key stakeholders to dialogue on: Ghana’s agricultural strategic objectives developed to help achieve food security; The Breadbasket Strategy and Approach in Ghana in the Green Revolution; Identify the key milestones towards achieving a green revolution in Ghana; Opportunities and linkages needed to achieve the Ghana Agricultural Strategy Objectives and the Africa Green Revolution.
Commenting on the importance of this Agricultural Investment Forum, Mrs. Jane Karuku, the President of AGRA, noted that such dialogue sessions are key in developing the country’s agricultural sector.
Mrs. Karuku further reiterated AGRA’s commitment to helping millions of small-scale farmers and their families to lift themselves out of poverty and hunger in Ghana and across Africa. According to her, she is optimistic that through the forum various stakeholders will come out with ways of supporting smallholder farmers to eradicate poverty in the country.
The key activities for the Forum will include plenary sessions where the discussions will centre on the roles and responsibility of government, private sector, donor partners and AGRA towards ensuring a food-sufficient country. Breakout sessions will discuss AGRA’s investment focus and how various grantees can benefit from the funds available.
