The Mayor of Accra, Dr. Afred Okoe Vanderpuije?s intention of making the capital city clean by halting commercial activities at unapproved locations, could be a mirage as some unscrupulous members of the Assembly?s Task Force have made it a duty to frustrate the Mayor?s initiatives.
?This paper can authoritatively say that instead of enforcing the directive by the Mayor by ensuring that no commercial activity is carried at these unapproved locations in the city, some members of the AMA task force have rather connive with traders at these locations and demands bribe and sex in place of ensuring the law.
Just about two weeks ago, the Mayor, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije went on an inspection tour on the Kaneshie footbridge where he found out the dilapidated nature of the bridge and therefore issued a directive that all commercial activities on the said bridge be halted.
However, days after the directive was issued, commercial activities are still going on on the footbridge, indicating that there is the tendency of the bridge collapsing one day, if care is not taken.
Another unapproved location, the Makola Traffic Light where hawkers have taken over the street is another area of great concern to the Mayor.
Information gathered by this paper indicated that some members of the task force detailed to these places for operations either demand monies or sexual favours from the hawker to allow them trade there.
This paper wants to assure it?s cherished readers that it is following the activities of these unscrupulous task force members and the traders and will keep them informed of any development.
