Kotoko Eye Ghana Double In Fa Cup Final Today, Medeama Seek Major Upset
A tough encounter is expected on Sunday afternoon as league champions Asante Kotoko take on Medeama in the Ghana FA Cup final in Accra with the Porcupines eyeing a double for the season.
Even though the Kumasi-based side are the overwhelming favorite to win the MTN FA Cup they face a determined Medeama side keen to seal their first major silverware in the country.
The all-premiership contest will come off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday 15:00GMT.
After beating Medeama to the Premier League title, Kotoko will be hoping to get another one over their opponents.
?We are going to win the double and are calling on all our fans to be at the stadium and support the team,? Asante Kotoko player, Amos Frimpong said ahead of the match.
Though Kotoko are strong favorites to beat the Mauves, who are appearing in the final for the first time, Medeama believe the Porcupine Warriors? desperation to win the double could work against them.
?It?s a mark of achievement from the club to reach the finals,? Evans Adotey, coach of Medeama said.
?We have been in the [premier] league for three years and this is how far we have come.
?We lost the league, the Presidents Cup and we hope to be third time lucky in the FA Cup.?
But a final victory at the Accra Sports Stadium, aside completing a domestic double will erase the pain of two seasons ago when Kotoko lost to Nania FC.
