As thousands of Batswana prepare to travel on various destinations for the Easter holiday, the police have cautioned them to exercise caution on the roads and safeguard their valuable properties. Easter
Public Relations Officer for the Botswana Police Service, Christopher Mbulawa, on Thursday called on the public to be responsible and implored them to avoid road accidents by staying alert on roads.
“Let us be responsible on the roads and remember to be safe at all times,” Mbulawa told a press conference in Gaborone, capital of the southern African country. He urged members of the public to be tolerant on the road during the holidays.
“Do not drive to punish other motorists, let’s learn to be better defensive drivers,” he said.
Botswana is mostly a Christian country and many use the holidays to worship. Many employers released employees from work early on Thursday to allow them to travel.
Police have in the past expressed concern over excessive road accidents usually recorded over holiday periods. Mbulawa said they have increased police visibility during the holidays with several roadblocks along major highways. He urged drivers to rest and avoid driving when fatigued. Enditem
