Benin adopts recovery plan to ensure consistent power supply

Benin's government has adopted a recovery plan for its electricity sector to guarantee consistent, quality and affordable power supply in the country, an official source said Monday.

One of the key components of the 28-point plan is to involve the private sector in the energy production, the source affirmed.

In July, the government decided to release about 50 million U.S. dollars from the national budget, to reinforce internal energy production and end persistent power blackouts by October.

For a number of days, Benin’s population has suffered from a prolonged power blackout in their homes as well as at their work places.

Energy deficit has continued to be a major challenge for successive Beninese governments, which have not been able to develop within the country major investment projects in the sector. Enditem
