The insurgents launched a mortar attack on Cameroonian soldiers in the town of Fotokol, according to an army spokesman. Boko Haram withdrew into Nigeria after heavy clashes.
President Paul Biya in May declared war on Boko Haram, which means “Western education is sinful,” in response to cross-border attacks.
Biya deployed soldiers and special units to the Far North Region to stop Boko Haram from infiltrating from neighbouring Nigeria.
The insurgents are reportedly recruiting child soldiers in Cameroon.
