CODA hands over classroom block to Morkwa Basic School

The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) has handed over a six-unit gated classroom block to the Morkwa Basic School in the Twifo-Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.

It has ancillary facilities including kitchen, headteacher’s office, staff common room, furniture, mechanised borehole with overhead storage tank as well as places of convenience.

The GH¢843,000.00 new classroom block was funded by CODA from the constituency’s share of the one million dollar per constituency fund to provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils.

The project, which was completed within six months, formed part of government’s Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) under the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MSDI).

Commissioning the facility, Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Chief Executive Officer of CODA, said the project was in support of its vision to lead the process of providing infrastructure support for poverty alleviation and inclusive growth in the Coastal Development Zone.

That will catalyse the creation of decent and sustainable income earning opportunities and enhance the quality of life across all social classes.

For that matter, the project was in fulfillment of government’s commitment to free, quality, and accessible education for all.

Other projects in the area, which were either completed or ongoing, include an astroturf, warehouse, classroom blocks, CHPS compounds, market centers, mechanized boreholes, and roads.

He thanked the traditional authorities, the people, and other key stakeholders in the area for supporting government’s development efforts.

Mr Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa explained that the one million dollar per Constituency was to aid infrastructural projects to facilitate development for all.

“That is a testimony of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s avowed commitment to education as decoy to bridge the poverty gap between the rich and the poor.

He advised parents to prioritize their children’s education as the only legacy parents could bequeath their children and it could not be taken away from them.

Mr Anthony Takyi, District Director of Education, was grateful to CODA for the facility and charged the School Management Committees to maintain the facility to serve its purpose meaningfully.
