Since September, legendary diva Cher has been dealing with a deadly viral infection, worse than anyone could imagine. Now, those close to the star exclusively share the details of Cher?s scary illness and her fight for recovery in the new issue of Closer Weekly.
?This viral infection she contracted scared everyone,? a source tells Closer. According to a longtime friend of the star, the viral infection ?primarily affected her kidneys? but also ?played havoc with her entire body. It?s been very scary to her.?
Most concerning, experts explain that acute viral infections can cause irregular heartbeats “which can be deadly if left unmonitored,” Dr. Gabe Mirkin, M.D., an Orlando, Florida?based physician who has not treated the singer tells Closer.
Cher’s rep confirms the singer was wearing a monitor, exclusively telling Closer: ?Cher was wearing a 24-hour heart monitor, which is a normal part of her recovery, just to ensure that she continues her excellent recovery from the viral infection she had. The doctors are very pleased with how well Cher’s doing. She?s out and about, exercising and rehearsing for her tour, which begins again in Texas in early November. She can?t wait to get back out on the road.?
An eyewitness confirms to Closer that the star was wearing ?a weird heart monitor taped to her chest,? while shopping at the Whole Foods in Brentwood on Oct 29th.
The performer, who had to cancel tour dates as a result of the infection, is anxious to get back on stage. Cher’s rep tells Closer: ?Cher will 100 percent continue her [Dressed to Kill] tour beginning Nov. 9. She is healthy and has beaten the viral infection.? ?I?m strong,? she recently tweeted. ?I?m happy to be alive.? And that means that the star has every intention of getting back onstage. ?I want to thank all my fans for their good wishes, patience and prayers,? she said.
While she seems to be doing much better now, the friend explains to Closer she has worn the monitor ?as a precautionary measure. They want to be absolutely certain her heart is OK and the lining hasn?t been affected by the acute viral infection. They are not leaving anything to chance.?
But it?s been hard for Cher to be patient with her health. ?I?m so sorry,? she tweeted on Sept. 13. ?I don?t cancel unless I can?t get up. This virus is a killer.?
