Defence Network For Democracy (DEFNED)has closely monitored the operations of Ghana’s Electoral Commission with keen interest over the years to date and wish to categorically state that, the pragmatic and decisive steps taken so far by the Electoral Commission towards the implementation of the 27 Election Reforms is highly commendable and refreshing which must be applauded by all Ghanaians and all Political Stakeholders in the Country.
Indeed ,DEFNED wish to emphatically state that, the pragmatic implementation of the Election Reforms will greatly boost the transparency and credibility of Ghana’s upcoming 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections where the outcome of the 7th December polls will be fully accepted by all Political Parties and all stakeholders involved in the electoral process in the Country
Moreover , DEFNED is hereby calling on all Political Parties and all stakeholders in the electoral process to strongly support the Electoral Commission in the implementation process of the robust Election Reforms which is my which is geared towards enhancing the transparency and credibility of the upcoming 7th December polls and beyond.
Furthermore , DEFNED is strongly urging the Electoral Commission which is the key Election Stakeholder in the Country mandated under the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana to conduct and supervise all public elections to once again exert its total neutrality ,transparency and fairness to all Political Parties contesting the upcoming 7th December polls to avoid any form of election violence before and after the declaration of the election results .
Meanwhile, DEFNED is further appealing to the Electoral Commission to demonstrate further its independence as enshrined in the provisions of the 1992 Constitution , so as to diffuse and erase the misconception and perception from a cross -section of the Ghanaian Society that, the Electoral Commission is always on the side of successive ruling governments in the Country which has for two decades now created doubts on the true neutrality and independence of the Commission thereby eroding public confidence in the operations of the Constitutional body despite the enormous giant strides made by the Electoral Commission coupled with the its impressive credentials achieved in Ghana’s maturing Democracy which has propelled the Commission as one of the best Election body on the African Continent.
