Islamist militants have stepped up attacks on Egyptian soldiers and police since the army toppled President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013 after mass protests against his rule.

Hundreds of security men have died during the attacks. Islamic State’s Egypt affiliate claimed responsibility for most of the attacks.

The attacks also crept to capital Cairo and other cities, killing civilians. On Friday nine people killed in Cairo in a bomb attack. Enditem
