New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Elections Evans Nimako expressed satisfaction with Saturday’s flagbearer election, citing strong coordination with security agencies and strict adherence to agreed guidelines. Speaking to MyNewsGh at a voting center, Nimako highlighted deliberate steps taken to ensure peaceful and orderly proceedings.
Nimako confirmed ongoing engagement with police and the Electoral Commission (EC) throughout the process. “Our engagement with the police and the Electoral Commission is ongoing. You can see the security presence, and the elections are going ahead in the manner that we discussed,” he stated. Visible security deployment at polling centers reflected collaborative planning between party officials and law enforcement.
The elections director described the voting process as reflecting internal planning and commitment to calm participation. He emphasized that the party fully implemented its guidelines for peaceful electoral conduct. “I think we are fully implementing our guidelines for peaceful conduct of elections,” Nimako noted during the interview.
When asked about his own voting participation, Nimako confirmed he had cast a ballot but declined to reveal his choice. “Yes, I have voted. You know you won’t get a response,” he said when pressed for details. His discretion maintained the secret ballot principle even for party officials overseeing the process.
Nimako characterized the election as part of a broader internal process that began well before voting day. He stressed that Saturday represented the culmination of extensive organizational work rather than an isolated event. “This is a whole process that the party engaged itself in. Today is about the conduct of the elections,” he explained.
The elections director maintained that the atmosphere at voting centers reflected preparedness and coordination. Observations from multiple locations suggested smooth proceedings aligned with planning expectations. “From what we are seeing, the process is proceeding smoothly,” Nimako assessed.
Over 211,000 delegates participated at more than 300 polling centers across all 16 regions. The massive logistical undertaking required coordination among party structures, security services, and election management bodies. Nimako’s positive assessment indicated that months of preparation produced the intended orderly outcome.
Party officials emphasized that maintaining credible internal democratic processes builds confidence among aspirants and delegates. The NPP (New Patriotic Party) seeks to demonstrate organizational capacity through well executed primaries, positioning itself as ready for national electoral competition in 2028.
