Members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in the Eastern region have pledged their unflinching support for the flagbearer of the party, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, whose nominations forms were rejected by the Electoral Commission (EC) on deadline day as a result of certain anomalies.

At an emergency meeting attended by the regional interim executive members and some other members of the party at the regional office of the party in Koforidua on Friday, the NDP members said they were solidly behind Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings despite her inability to contest the presidential election.

?We know some other parties were uncomfortable with us contesting the presidential elections and did all they could to thwart Nana Konadu?s effort to contest,? the regional interim chairman, Osikani Wiafe said.

He noted that some people in the ruling party were working to infiltrate their camp to entice members with money to join their party, stressing that they had resolved to go with the NDP because they believe in the ideals of the party.

?We have had people coming to us with money to bribe us but have rejected those bribes because our hearts are with NDP,? he said.

According to him, they were waiting for a word from their flagbearer to know the next step to take.

He said if any directive comes from their flagbearer as to which of the endorsed presidential candidates they should vote for, they would throw their weight behind that particular individual.

?We will definitely vote in the presidential elections and could vote for any of the contesting candidates except the candidate of the ruling NDC.?

He said 14 candidates filed to contest the parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NDP last Thursday.

The constituencies they would be contesting are Yilo Krobo, Asuogyaman, Fanteakwa North, Fanteakwa South, Akim Swedru, Ofoase/Ayirebi, New Juaben North, Okere, Asene/Manso/Akroso, Oda, Achiase, Mpreaso and Akropong
