Fidelity Bank Ghana has launched its 20th anniversary celebrations with a pledge to install solar systems in 20 community hospitals and a savings promotion offering electric vehicles.
The bank marked the start of the anniversary at an event in Accra under the theme “Twenty Years of Audacious Steps.” Guests included founder Edward Effah, shareholders, board members and staff, as well as traditional leaders led by Notse (Prof.) Nii Nortey Owuo IV, the Osu Mantse and President of the Osu Stool Council.
Fidelity began in 1998 as Fidelity Discount House, with US$1 million in capital, and became a universal bank in 2006. Effah said the goal from the start was to build a world-class Ghanaian bank that would support individuals, businesses and national development. The bank says 2.2 million people now bank with it through its financial inclusion programmes. It also says it has financed power projects and affordable housing.
Managing Director Julian Opuni said the bank had grown by taking calculated risks, entering new markets and making hard decisions when playing safe would have been easier. “We did not get here by standing still,” he said.
Those choices have been tested recently. Fidelity posted a GH¢518 million loss in 2022 after provisioning for losses under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, then returned to profit in 2023. For 2025, it reported profit before tax of GH¢1.46 billion, up 21 per cent. Total assets rose 17 per cent to GH¢25.98 billion, and its non-performing loan ratio fell to 7.09 per cent.
Alongside the hospital solar project, the bank launched “Impact at Twenty”. Under the programme, staff teams will carry out 20 community projects, give more than 2,000 volunteer hours and reach more than 20,000 people, with a focus on health and climate action. The bank has not yet named the hospitals.
It also unveiled the Fidelity Jubilee Drive Promo, Double Double Edition, which runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 March 2027. Customers earn draw tickets for each GH¢1,000 they save and keep in their accounts, and get double tickets for balances of GH¢2,000 or more. Prizes include eight electric vehicles and GH¢340,000 in cash, with monthly draws run by the National Lottery Authority and a grand draw in April 2027. It is the first time the bank has offered electric vehicles as prizes.
