Retired Chief Inspector Muhammad Alidu has reacted to a news item published in DAILY GUIDE issue of Tuesday, October 9, 2012 headlined ?We?re Not Fools ? Amidu Fires John Mahama.?
In a press release dated 15th October, 2012, Muhammad Alidu, the former Regional Organizing Assistant of the Upper East Police CDRS, as well as commander of the then Upper East Police Task force, said Martin Alamisi B.K. Amidu is ?now going too far in castigating the President and for that matter, he must be told to shut up because he cannot claim to be infallible.??
Muhammad Alidu, in the rejoinder, said he knows Martin Amidu too well because he worked with him when he was Deputy PNDC Regional Secretary to John Ndebugre, who was then the PNDC Regional Secretary for the Upper East region in the so-called revolutionary era.
?Mr. Martin Amidu and his boss Mr. John Ndebugre both failed woefully in their duties to the people of the Upper East Region. The worst they did was they incited the Kusasis against the Mamprusis in Bawku and that ignited the Bawku conflict to-date,? it stated.
The release added that Mr. John Ndebugre, who is a Kusasi, was shot at in the conflict zone, but the bullet missed him narrowly and hit the ear of his bodyguard one W.O.I. Abu of the Ghana Armed Forces.
?Martin Amidu is hereby warned to stop his negative vituperations against President John Mahama because the attacks are of no value to the people of Ghana. He is only making noise to be heard.
?As a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, I personally admired him when he started the crusade against Woyome in his ?gargantuan? fraud against people of this country because it is highly unacceptable for one person to be giving so much for no work done when most Ghanaians are unable to make ends meet. I congratulate him for that,? the rejoinder continued.
The statement noted that Martin Amidu accused some ministers of undermining him in the media.
Muhammad Alidu said he was told when the late President Atta Mills invited him to mention the names of the ministers, he refused to do that hence his removal from office.
The Retired Chief Inspector recalled how Martin Amidu issued an apology letter to the late President thereafter. ?If so, what was the reason for his apology, if he think he did nothing wrong??? he quizzed.
?As the then Attorney General and Minister of Justice, it was incumbent upon him to mention names of those ministers if any, who were undermining him to enable the late president deal with them accordingly. But since he feared and refused to mention the names, there was nothing the late President could do than to fire him and that was what happened.
By his action, he has exposed the whole government machinery to public ridicule, odium and contempt, which is against the ethics of his profession, it said.
?As a lawyer, Martin Amidu knows too well that it is incumbent upon whosoever makes an allegation to prove it. So, failure to give the names of the ministers, who he claimed undermined him, he has exposed his ignorance to the highest level and that led to his dismissal.??
Muhammad Alidu asserted that he is not in any way holding brief for President John Mahama, adding, ?Martin Amidu knows too well there is collective responsibility in governance. John Mahama, then Vice President could not prevail upon the late President not to dismiss him because he Martin Amidu is a Northner.
This is the very reason why Martin has decided to unduly attack the personality of President John Mahama, which is highly unaccepted and very much uncalled for, he claimed.
?As a former minister if state, he swore the oath of allegiance and secrecy before he was appointed. It is therefore absolutely wrong for him to be quoting official letters to the media. It is definitely not in his interest.?
?Martin Amidu needs to know better. If he thinks that President Mahama cannot be investigated by any public corrupt institution for justice to prevail, why can?t he pursue the case in court as a lawyer, if he has facts. He knows very well, he can pursue a case in court to the Supreme Court level, which is the highest court of the land and get justice.?
Muhammad Alidu sternly warned Martin Amidu to stop washing his dirty linen in public.
