Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced here on Wednesday some changes in the armed forces high command.
“The president has, in consultation with the Council of State appointed Major-General Thomas Oppong-Peprah as the new Chief of Army Staff, with appointment taking effect from Tuesday (February 18),” a statement from presidential press secretary Eugene Arhin said.
Maj-Gen Oppong-Peprah, who until his appointment has been the chief of staff at the general headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, replaces Maj-Gen William Ayamdo, who is proceeding on retirement.
On the recommendation of the Armed Forces Council, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Commodore Issah Adams Yakubu as the new chief of staff at the general headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, with a new rank of Rear Admiral.
President Akufo-Addo has also appointed Brigadier-General Charles Awity as the new Commandant of Military Academy and Training School (MATS).
Awity, who has also been promoted to the rank of Major-General, and will take over from Maj-Gen. Omane Agyekum, the out-going commandant who is retiring from the Ghana Armed Forces.
Akufo-Addo thanked the retiring officers for their selfless and meritorious service to the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation as a whole. Enditem
