The Management of the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) has postponed its intended free service to commuters on the Accra-Tema line slated for Tuesday, January 8 to19.
The postponement was occasioned by some encroachment on the Company’s lines at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Avenor and Achimota areas.
The encroachment was detected when the Management of the company, with the sector Minister, Mr Joe Ghartey and Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, inspected the lines on Friday, January 4.
A statement issued by the Company and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the free service would, however, come off in the two weeks and apologised for any inconvenience caused to the public.
It said the encroachers returned to the lines when the GRCL workers went for the Christmas break and assured that it was dealing with them to make the lines safe.
“Management of the GRCL has taken insurance cover for all passengers who patronise the trains and is also putting in place mechanism to ensure maximum passenger safety and comfort;”it said.
