The New Patriotic Party flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said that he has never advocated nor thought of promoting tribal politics in Ghana as being propagated by members of the National Democratic Congress across the country.
According to him, the NDC government, in its quest to sweep aside the massive corruption and mass suffering of Ghanaians, deliberately propagated that he and the NPP were promoting tribal politics, hence people should not vote for the party.
“One of the reasons why I am seeking your support is to maintain and preserve the unity of our country. We want to do away with tribal politics; this party is Ashanti party, this party is Kusal party, kan-bom-ga, Kusal, Mamprusi party; all of that we want to do away with it. We are all Ghanaians, the difficulties that people are experiencing since Mills became President, are they for only Kusasi people or Mamprusi people? They are for all of us. So we are looking for the person who can do the job, whether he is Kusau, whether he is Mamprusi, whether he is Dagomba, whether he is Ashanti, Akyem, Ga or Ewe, if he is the person who can bring development to our country, that is the person we should give our authority to bring development to this country. Those who express tribal sentiments are the very people who have sent our country backwards,” the NPP flag-bearer noted.
Nana Addo was speaking at Atuba in the Binduri Constituency to end his four-day tour of some constituencies in the Bawku Traditional Area.
He promised to continue talking about issues that would bring development and progress to Ghanaians throughout his campaign, and hoped that Ghanaians would listen to the message and vote for the NPP to change the face of the country.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, after his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had presented the state of the nation’s economy to Ghanaians, the NDC, instead of addressing the issues he had raised, rather decided to attack his personality, adding that “… today the World Bank report on the state of our economy has vindicated Dr. Bawumia. This is what we should be doing; let’s talk about our country’s development and stop the lies and propaganda making people believe that all is well and all is not well.”
Touching on the agriculture sector, Nana Addo said his government would ensure that many irrigation dams were constructed and the existing ones given a facelift to boost dry season farming and large scale farming in order to make the North the food basket of the country and beyond.
When he visited the Atuba Market in the Binduri Constituency, the women complained of lack of financial support to expand their businesses and support their children, and promised to vote for Nana Addo if he could assure them of support when he came to power.
The NPP flag-bearer assured them that there would be a scheme that would ensure women were supported in businesses of their choice under his government, saying all the poverty alleviation initiatives that had been collapsed by the NDC government would be reactivated to support women under a Micro Credit Scheme.
The NPP flag-bearer and his entourage, earlier attended the funeral of the late chief of Sapeliga in the Zebilla Constituency. Other areas he visited included Binguri, Kadi, Bazua and Binduri.
During his tour, Nana Addo called for peaceful co-existence among people of all tribes in the Bawku Traditional Area and other parts of Ghana, and advised everyone to work together for development and hold people they voted for accountable.
