Some media houses had reported that gunmen attacked during the Acting Inspector-General’s visit to Kano

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has refuted media reports that his convoy was attacked by the Boko Haram sect in Kano State.
A statement issued on Thursday by Olusola Amore, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, said that while gunmen on motorcycles shot two police officers at a filling station in the Hotoro area of Kano, the incident was in no way related to the IG’s visit as the officers were not in his convoy.
“The two policemen are not in the IG’s convoy. They are among those deployed to a nipping point for security in the Hotoro area of Kano,” Amore said, describing news of the attack on the IG as “false and misleading”.
The Kano State Police command also said that at no time did the Boko Haram sect disrupt the Acting IG’s convoy in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, the State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, explained that the two police officers who were shot were at their duty post and not in the IGP’s convoy.
“The Kano State Police Command wishes to state that the news aired by AIT is false and mischievous. AIT’s Kano reporter and some journalists were in the IGP’s convoy from airport to Police Academy, Wudil and back to airport,” Idris said.
“The visit by the IGP and the Minister of Police Affairs was hitch-free and successful as all of you (reporters and gentlemen of the press) were part of the visit and there was no such incident.”
He urged journalists in the state to always cross-check their facts before going to press, to prevent spreading untrue information to the public.
The commissioner, who restated the commitment of the police towards providing security, urged citizens to cooperate with the command to achieve the desired objectives.
