Gov.Gabriel Suswam of Benue has urged people of the state to indulge in writing in order to preserve their culture and tradition for generations yet unborn.
Suswam, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Steve Lawani, made the call on Tuesday in Makurdi during the public presentation and launching of two books.
The books are entitled: ?Retirement: Management Challenges and Strategies? and ?Lessons for a Christian Woman,? written by Rhoda Tor-Agbidye.
The governor said people?s culture and tradition could only be preserved through books which could be documented for posterity.
?The society can only continue to exist if the people indulge in research and writing about cultures and traditions of nationalities or ethnic groups,? he said.
Also speaking, former Speaker, Benue House of Assembly, Mrs Margaret Icheen, enjoined civil servants not to be afraid of retirement, stressing that they should, instead, prepare fully ahead of their retirement.
Prof. Nancy Agbe, who reviewed the book, ?Lessons for a Christian Woman,? challenged women not to abandon their husbands for other men in whatever circumstances.
Agbe said that they should rather love and cherish them irrespective of their marital challenges.
She also advised them to venture into activities that would give them food and keep them busy, noting that if they were idle the devil would take advantage of that and use them mightily.
She called on women to teach sound morals to their children, saying that by inculcating discipline and fear of God in their children, the society would be better for it.
Chief Terhemba Shija, while reviewing the other book, “Retirement: Management Challenges and Strategies,” called on civil servants to invest for the future.
He noted that if they invested for the future they would certainly have nothing to fear about retirement.
