The Malaysia High Commission has donated sewing machines and barbering/ hairdressing kits worth GH? 6,000 to the One-Stop Training Centre of the Islamic Peace and Security Council in Accra.
Mr Loon-Lai Cheong, Malaysia High Commissioner, said the donation was made possible under the auspices of the Malaysian government through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).
He said Malaysia attached importance to the development of human capital, which is done through short term training courses as well as long term tertiary courses.
He said more than 200 Ghanaians have over the years benefited from the MTCP and in the last two years alone, close to 30 Ghanaians have been offered training in Malaysia in several key areas namely agriculture, economics, finance and trade, education, environment and ICT management among others.
Mr Cheong said the Malaysia High Commission under the flagship of MTCP Outreach programme, supports the objective of the One-Stop Training Centre in providing its community with practical vocational and skills training that would ultimately create a self sustaining environment for basic entrepreneurship education.
He said sustainability is vital in every endeavour and expressed the hope that the training centre would be self sustaining in the future.
?We also hope that the training centre will continue to contribute towards elevating the livelihood of the local community, especially the women folks, in empowering them with the right knowledge and skills that ultimately will help them support their overall household income,? he said.
Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam commended the Malaysia High Commission for the support.
He called on other Embassies and High Commissions to support the training centre, as it would help create employment to the youth, especially in the Zongo communities.
The One-Stop Training Centre of the Islamic Peace and Security Council founded by the National Chief Imam was established to train the youth in tailoring, fashion and design, barbering and hairdressing.
