The agreements touching on mutual visa exemption, evaluation of standards and tertiary education, were signed in Port Louis on Monday during the visit to Mauritius by Ghanaian President John Mahama Dramani.

The agreement on mutual visa exemption provides for suspension of visa obligations for holders of diplomatic passports who may wish to visit either of the two countries, as well as holders of ordinary passports of either of the two countries who wish to visit the other country for a period less than 90 days. This will help to improve inter-connectivity and movement of people between the two countries.

The protocol between the Mauritius Standards Bureau and the Ghana Standards Authority aims to promote and facilitate trade between Mauritius and Ghana through elimination of non-tariff barriers and improve trade relations in the areas of standardization and evaluation of standards.

Finally, the protocol on cooperation in higher education aims to promote mutual recognition of qualifications, inter-university linkages, students and lecturers exchange program, university scholarship programs and collaborative research.

The signing ceremony was preceded by a meeting between Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth and Mahama. They discussed important bilateral, regional and international issues, a source from the meeting said.

The two parties explored the possibility of collaboration in sectors such as ICT, sugar and textile industries as well as in other areas that are beneficial to both countries.

Mauritius and Ghana are set to sign an agreement removing double taxation, a measure that will increase investments in the respective countries. Enditem
