Champions Medeama moved three points clear at the top of the Ghana Premier League with a 3-1 win over Heart of Lions, while Hearts of Oak climbed to second.
The Matchday Six results, played over the weekend of 10 and 11 October, leave Medeama on 14 points from six games and Hearts on 11. The weekend also ended Samartex 1996’s unbeaten start to the season.
Medeama pull away
Emmanuel Annor, signed from Nations FC in the summer, opened the scoring for Medeama at the TnA Stadium. Kingsley Braye then struck twice in two minutes to put the game beyond Heart of Lions. Kofi Mawutodzi Agbadji replied for the visitors, whose coach, Bashir Hayford, was named the league’s Coach of the Month for September.
Hearts of Oak ended a two-match winless run with a 1-0 win over newly promoted Port City, with Frank Duku’s header the only goal.
Obuasi fortress holds
FC AshantiGold 04 handed Samartex their first league defeat of the season, winning 1-0 in Obuasi through Raphael Ankamah’s 15th-minute penalty. The result stretched AshantiGold’s unbeaten home run in the league to 18 matches.
Bechem United produced the comeback of the weekend, beating Vision FC 4-2 after trailing 2-1. Yaw Acheampong equalised, Kofi Tompuo put Bechem ahead late on, and a stoppage-time own goal sealed it.
Young Apostles ended a three-match losing run, and Aduana FC’s three-match winning streak, with a 1-0 win secured by Samuel Prempeh’s penalty just before half-time. Karela United made it three home wins in a row by beating Dreams FC 1-0 through Malik Abubakar.

Two sides climbed out of the relegation zone. Berekum Chelsea beat league debutants Debibi United 3-0 with goals from Stephen Kwakye, Dramani Awuah and Emmanuel Ofosu. Kwame Opoku scored twice as Bibiani Gold Stars beat Basake Holy Stars 2-0 at Dun’s Park to rise to 14th.
