Nana Akufo-Addo embracing Nana Kwaku Nkrumah Omanhene of Dompem. INSET: The crowd
Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the New Patriotic Party?s (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, yesterday brought commercial activities in certain parts of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency of the Western Region to a halt when he took his nationwide interpersonal campaign dubbed ?Tour to Restore Hope? to the area.
It will be recalled that upon hearing of the death of the late President John Mills, whilst on the ?tour to restore hope? in the Western Region, Nana Addo decided to suspend the rest of the campaign until further notice.
The NPP flagbearer will therefore use the current tour in the region to visit the other communities he could not visit previously.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Nana Addo was mobbed by residents, traders and commercial drivers who abandoned everything to catch a glimpse of him. They described him as the next president of Ghana.
Yesterday?s tour in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency took Nana Addo to Nsuaem, Benso, Simpa, Dompem, Tebrebe and Tarkwa, all in the constituency.
At Nsuaem, a popular town in the constituency noted for illegal mining also called ?galamsey?, Nana Addo reportedly assured the people that the NPP was not against ?galamsey? as was being claimed by some people in the area.
The NPP flagbearer stated that his government would however be committed to ensuring that the best practices were adhered to.
He indicated that proper mechanisms would be put in place for the miners to apply for small-scale mining permits in their own right, so that their activities could be regulated and the necessary aid accorded to them.
Nana Addo assured the people that his campaign promise of free secondary education would not be a mirage when given the nod in December this year.
?I want to assure all of you that my free secondary education promise will not be an empty promise as the elements of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are trying to portray,? he added.
Nana Addo took time to shake hands and interacted with as many people as possible in the various communities he visited with his entourage.
The chiefs and people pledged their full support for the NPP flagbearer in the December 7 general elections.
