Raids black spots on Lagos beach

Twenty suspected miscreants are in the custody of the Nigerian Navy, following a raid of black spots at the Marine Beach area of Lagos State over the weekend.

The operation was jointly carried out by the Navy and the Apapa Local Government Waste Management and Environmental Service Department for the third consecutive week.

According to the Information Officer of the Western Naval Command Apapa, Lt. Commander Jerry Omodara, the raid covered Marine Beach, Leventis Road, Dock-yard Road, and shanties along the railway.

Omodara said the miscreants had turned the areas to hotbeds for prostitution and  other criminal activities, especially at night.

The officers also discovered hard drugs and dangerous weapons during the raid.

“We had in recent past raided the place and arrested people with arms, cocaine and Indian hemp. In fact, on March 11, 2012, drug peddlers were arrested there and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,” he said.

“The suspected criminals arrested last week in the area were handed over to the Nigeria Police Area B Command, Apapa.”
