Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of mobile telephone network Tigo, has launched a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative dubbed: ?Tigo Smile Champions.?
The initiative will give Ghanaians the opportunity to tell Tigo of the needs of any community of their choice and the help they require, based on which entries would be shortlisted for execution by the company.
Mr Selorm Adadevoh, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the company launched the new community initiative at Ada, in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday.
?This project will seek to bring transformational Tigo move across the 10 regions of Ghana to put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians across the country,? Mr Adadevoh said.
He said Tigo has decided to take the extra step to contribute to the change it wants to see in Ghana by moving through each community one at a time.
The company used the occasion to present a set of beds and mattresses to the maternity ward of Ada Health Centre, which it refurbished at the request of the community during the last Asafotofiam festival of the chiefs and people of the traditional area.
According to Mr Adadevoh, the company is collaborating with local authorities during their annual festivals, to address one pressing need of their communities.
Tigo would inaugurate the renovation works of the children?s ward of Tafo local hospital to commemorate the Ohum festival, and would carry out renovation works at Abura English and Arabic School in commemoration of the Afahye festival.
Nene Abram Ackuaku III, Paramount Chief of the Area, thanked the company for the gesture.
