Nkroful is one of the many vulnerable towns in Ghana. It is vulnerable because of its location. The land of Nkroful is soak with water because of the many rivers surrounding it and the great Oceans lying south of it, a distance of? less than 3km from where it is. This is the very place which is supposedly being giving to a mining company call Adamus Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Endeavour Mining Corporation all from Australia. They are going to create a pit of about 500m wide and 200m deep with Nkroful community which is below sea level.
There is a conflict of interest here, because the allege site given to Adamus, the State has its National Gas Pipeline passing through the same area. So, what will happen? Blasting from mines and the gas: NKROFUL WHERE WOULD YOU BE? The Nkrumah mausoleum and the new University being built at Nkroful. Oh Nkroful where would your History and Heritage be?.
A town which name has catches the attention of many whenever its mentioned all over the world. It is so because of its great History. This History was won for it because of the toil and suffering of her Great Son Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The State has decided to erode this Heritage. One may ask why? Why would a Historical town like Nkroful being given out for SALE to a mining company for money that would go to the pocket of few individuals?
If a small community like Nkroful has struggled to raise these structures and a mining company just come in to bulldoze them down just to pave way for them to mine for gold that wouldn?t benefit the community, then where lies its destiny? Nobody is ready to speak for her. Is it the politicians, religious leaders, chiefs? No, they?ve all become vampires. All these structures above have marked to be pulled down.
In fact, we are in a country that makes refences a lot but does nothing.
A politician who is enjoying the benefit of the BLOOD AND TOIL of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah once said, ?Nkrumah isn?t bigger than Ghana and for that matter anything that the company want to do, they can go ahead and do it?. Almost everybody is saying all sort of fallacies about Nkroful because their mouths are full of doppings from the obnoxious blood sucking vampires called Adamus so they are mute.
Sometimes i see it to be funny when the State talks about celebrating Nkrumah?s Birthday on the 21st day of September every year. Its indeed funny to be celebrating somebody we do not recognize to be our leader. Do we want to mock HIM?
Now lets look at what the law says.
PROTCTION FROM DEPRIVATION OF PROPERTY WHICH IS UNDER CHAPTER FIVE OF THE 1992 CONSTITUTION OF GHANA
Article 20. (1) No property of any description, or interest in or right over any property shall be compulsorily taken possession of or acquired by the State unless the following conditions are satisfied-
(a) the taking of possession or acquisition is necessary in the interest of defence, public safety, public order, public morality, public health, town and country planning or the development or utilization of property in such a manner as to promote the public benefit; and
(b) The necessity for the acquisition is clearly stated and is such as to provide reasonable justification for causing any hardship that may result to any person who has an interest in or right over the property.
(2) Compulsory acquisition of property by the State shall only be made under a law which makes provision for-
(a) the prompt of fair and adequate compensation; and
(b) a right of access to the High Court by any person who has an interest in or right over the property whether direct or on appeal from any other authority, for the determination of his interest or right and the amount of compensation to which he is entitled.
(3) Where a compulsory acquisition or possession of land affected by the State in accordance with clause (1) of this article involves displacement of any inhabitants, the State shall resettle the displaced inhabitants on suitable alternative land with due regard for their economic well-being and social and cultural values.?
The Constitution of Ghana is Supreme. Article 1. (1) The Sovereignty of Ghana resides in the people of Ghana in whose name and for whose welfare the powers of government are to be exercised in the manner and within the limits laid down in the Constitution.
The Constitution kept on mentioning the State and not a company, but what do we see in Ghana and for that matter Nkroful. You will see a mining company?s staffs moving up and down valuing people building and properties and paying compensations that due them. You will see them clearing and destroying, mining and drilling but you ask them and they would lie to you. They claim to be helping you develop but they tend to be destroying the little you have.
