Derek Boateng insists Ghana will beat Malawi at their own backyard
By Patrick Akoto
Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng says there is no need for fans to press the panic button after the Black Stars laboured to beat Malawi in a 2013 Nations Cup qualifier.
The West African giants put up a stirred second half performance to beat The Flames 2-0 at the Accra Sports stadium.
The team looked lethargic and out of sort in the first half and needed an inspired display from rising star Christian Atsu and Anthony Annan to light the stadium alive.
The Southern Africans have a lot of organizational skills, and one thing that is responsile for their recent good performances at home is their growing confidence.
For a side that can hardly be described as overflowing with talents, the Malawians possess the ability to upset their Ghanaian counterpart in the return fixture in Blantyre.
But the Dnipro enforcer is optimistic the Black Stars can put The Flames to the sword.
?You can see it was a very difficult game, Malawi showed that they can play. They are a very good side and were not afraid to play their game,? Boateng said
?I saw how good they were when I was on the bench and I came in with a strategy for them, but overall they are good,?
?They can play good football which made it difficult for us that?s why we are happy we won 2-0. It is not bad as we will make it.?
He added: ?What is important is that we are leading by two goals and if we go there, they have to win by 3-0 which is not going to be easy for any team,?
?They are going to play more offensive because they are not afraid to come forward and we will also be ready to take advantage.
