The National Sports Authority held a media forum in Accra on Friday to build support for its nationwide Constituency Games, a grassroots talent initiative backed by the Presidency.
The forum, organised by the NSA’s Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee at the ESP Hotel in Labone, brought together editors, sports journalists, producers and broadcasters, with a virtual option for participants outside Greater Accra. Organisers used the session to present the initiative’s framework and to position media houses as partners in public education, community mobilisation and transparency around the Games, rather than as outside observers.
The Constituency Games were first proposed by RMPC chairman Samson Deen, who is also president of the African Paralympic Committee, at the committee’s inauguration on August 14. Deen has described the initiative as a community-owned, national talent-discovery platform intended to move athletes from constituency-level competition through regional and national stages and into elite development programmes, rather than functioning as a one-off tournament.
The proposal carries backing from the Presidency. In a letter dated September 3, 2025, to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the Office of the President’s support for the Games and urged the ministry to coordinate their implementation. Deen has since called the initiative a “decisive pillar” of President John Mahama’s Reset Ghana Sports Agenda.
The RMPC has already begun attracting outside support for the programme. On August 18, also at the ESP Hotel, the Ghana-Anhui Chamber of Commerce and Industry donated 2,120 sports items to the committee, including 600 pairs of footwear and 1,520 T-shirts, intended to support grassroots participation once the Games get under way.
