The commitment of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) towards the development of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in the Volta region has been questioned.
According to the Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kenwuud Nuworsu, the construction of shoddy facilities shows that the current NDC administration was not committed to the development of the university.
?The NDC has simply shortchanged us, I am a Voltarian myself and I want development like everyone else, but if the infrastructure are shoddy how do I endorse that.?
He added that ?despite the support the NDC enjoys from the region, they have shown little commitment in establishing the university like many other projects scattered across the region which they inherited from the NPP.?
Mr Nuworsu, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, added that ?no private person will be given accreditation to even run it as a Junior High School (JHS).?
He alleged that the Chairman of the University?s Board and the Vice Chancellor declared that the structures do not befit a university.
The former Regional NADMO Coordinator asserted that ?if all it takes to establish university is what the NDC has done then former President Kufour would have built universities in every district of the country and Volta region would not be an exception.?
He cited the model secondary schools built in every district of the country as classical example of NPP?s commitment and track-record in education.
For him, the NDC should have committed more funds to start some concrete structures on the actual site of the university where former President Mills cut the sod last year.
He said ?the site is now a forest again because for the NDC what they have done is enough to win the hearts of Voltarians.?
The firebrand chairman mentioned that he was not surprised at the spectacular failure of the NDC.
Mr Nuworsu, who wondered why the NDC propagandists were deceiving Voltarians, said the NDC should inform the world about resources it used to construct the temporary structures which cannot match nurses flats built by the NPP.
He also accused the NDC of ?robbing Peter to pay Paul? in the establishment of the university.
?NDC propagandists, through the media, showed the twin building which was confiscated from Kenel Amevor many years ago as a brand new building for the university, how shameful.?
?The President said at IEA that they will build nurses flats, yet he has forgotten that some of them were built by the NPP, one of which has been annexed to accommodate staff of the Volta university while nurses continue to rent apartments at very high cost in the region.?
?Mahama certainly doesn?t know what development is about and is probably suffering from amnesia.?
