The Chairman Olu Na Adagbe People?s Assembly, a non governmental
pressure group, Chief Shedrack Anakwue, has called on the state
Governor Mr. Peter Obi to reconsider the conduct of the local
Government elections in the state following the inability of Anambra
state Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to publish the names
of the candidate aspiring for chairmanship and Councillor thirty days
before the elections as contained in the electoral act.
Chief Anakwue, who spoke to journalists in Awka yesterday, said that
the state electoral act enjoins ANSIEC to publish the names of
chairmanship and Councillor candidates thirty days before the
elections.
That any attempt to publish the names of the candidates? lists now by
the ANSIEC would amount to contempt of the electoral act and would be
challenged in the law court.
He thanked the people of the state for peaceful conduct of the
November sixteenth Governorship election in the state, calling on the
people to lend their total cooperation to incoming government of Dr.
Willie Obiano come March seventeenth in the state.
Anakwue called on Governor Obi and the national chairman of APGA,
Chief Victor Umeh ?to continue to carry everybody along in the
political affairs at the party, observed with dismay that the internal
crisis rocking APGA ?is yet to be resolved.
He noted that the conduct of the local government elections now is not
feasible, pointing out that if another political party had won the
November 16th?governorship elections nobody would be talking of local
government elections now.
He urged Governor Obi to reject the offer of national leadership of
the party ?if such position could dent his good works in the state as
well as damage his revered image in the South-East and Nigeria in
general.
Chief Anakwuo, who spoke among other things, observed that the way
things were currently going ? in APGA would spoil so many things not
only in the state but in the entire Igbo speaking states if allowed to
continue. He called on the APGA stakeholders in Nigeria to allow peace
to reign in the party in order to create a favourable environment for
the incoming government in the state to carry out his statutory
functions without fear.
