Mr Divine Nkrumah, the National Youth Coordinator of the Progressive People?s Party (PPP) on Friday staged a one-man demonstration to protest against recent economic hardships and the poor leadership quality of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government.

The demonstration which was engineered by the Youth Wing of the Party, chronicled events and decisions of government such as the recent fuel shortage, as well as frequent increases in tariffs and prices of utilities.

The protester also made reference to the fact that Polytechnic teachers are currently on strike; that monies owed the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) have not been paid, the removal of government subventions to public Universities and increases in academic user fees in all Tertiary Institutions among other issues.

Other issues raised were on the frequent power cuts which is adversely affecting both the domestic and industrial sectors and discouraging entrepreneurship from creating new businesses, increasing rate of graduate unemployment and widening of the poverty gap between the rich and poor.

Mr Nkrumah started his walk from the Obra Sport at the Kwame Nkrumah circle and headed towards Farisco Intersection at Adabraka, through to the Trade Union Congress headquarters towards the Cedi House, the National Theater and ended in front of the Art Centre where he addressed the media.

He held a placard with an inscription ?Mahama Must Go??, and had Police escorts to ensure a smooth protest.

Mr Nkrumah enumerated the problems have taken a serious toll on Ghanaians and therefore someone ought to stand up and send a clear message to government that times are hard and the government cannot continue to take the people for granted.

According to him the current hardships that Ghanaians are facing depicts the deplorable state of the economy, and it is an indication of the failure of the NDC government to live up to its promises.

?President Mahama has failed to provide the kind of leadership that is needed to improve the conditions of the people?, he said; questioning whether the President is really in-charge of the affairs of governance in the country.

Mr Nkrumah also accused the President of failing to handle satisfactorily, issues of corruption.

He said Ghanaians are currently going through indescribable suffering which appears to be surfacing as a threat to the security and stability of the country.

Mr Nkrumah called on Ghanaians to reject the deep seated acrimonious politics that threatens to consume the country, and rather make way for the fresh alternative politics and good governance that will deliver an incorruptible government, evidenced in stewardship, health care, education and jobs for all Ghanaians.
