As Information Technology dominates campuses, students of Nigerian Institute of Journalism are not left behind. They told one of our Campus Gist correspondents, MAR’YAM THAWBAAN, how the use of advanced Operating Systems have aided their study.

A survey conducted among students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos, has ?revealed that the Google’s Android and the BlackBerry ?Operating Systems (OS) are useful for achieving academic excellence.

Some of the students noted that the OS’ had contributed to their research and intellectual capacity.

From the interviews done, the use of phones appeared not to be a curse but a course (progress) for NIJ students.

According to a Higher National Diploma (HND) student of the Institute, Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele, BB phone has been helpful to him for further reading on courses.

He said, “The BlackBerry phone fits what I am doing, as a student studying and my business as a clothes dealer. It is a very important phone to me because it has helped me in doing several of my assignments”

Another HND student of the Institute, Habeebullah Abdul-Gaffar, noted that the value that would be gotten from the use of BB was more ?than the amount used to subscribe on it.

“The BlackBerry is a utility device to students like me because its subscription is quite affordable. It has helped me in achieving more academic challenges than one,” he added.

The usefulness of BB was not only felt among the HND students, the National Diploma Students are not left out.

They also said it helped them to tackle assignments and get informed about happenings in the country.

While speaking with ?ND students, one of our correspondents in NIJ, learnt that it was more convenient for the students to read on BB than text books.

It was gathered that the portability of BB provided convenience for the students during study.

One of them, Okedara Jamal said, ?”I don’t know what we students would have done without BB or android phones because with such phones, I’ve been able to do most of my class assignments.”

Urging students to use BB to achieve academic excellence, ND2 student, Udo Hannah said, “I really like the BB and android phones, I use my BB in doing my assignments, for reading more on what we’re being taught in class and in assessing many sites and I believe that all these are ways in which I can achieve academic excellence.”

Another ND student, Richard Roberts added, “I’m using a blackberry and an android phone and I can tell you that, these two devices have helped me in more ways than one, especially in my studying.”
