A cheque for GHC 2,000.00 out of the GHC 5,400.00 was presented to the Ghana Blind Union for the launching of the Union in the Municipality, whilst seven other disabled persons received individual cheques out of the rest of the amount for various purposes including income generating activity, educational support, medical assistance, animal rearing and trading.

Presenting the cheques, Mr. Asubonteng reiterated the Assembly?s commitment to supporting the welfare of the physically challenged persons in the Municipality as they played vital roles in national development.

He asked them to put to good use by investing the money they had received to guarantee a sustained livelihood, adding ?the Assembly would open an account and put 20 per cent of the share of the fund for investment and construct an office building.?

The MCE appealed to them to refrain from blaming the Municipal Assembly whenever the release of the common fund was delayed, as it was difficult to receive the fund from the Central government at certain times.

Receiving the cheque, Mr. Peter Kwame Amoako, Chairman of Ghana Blind Union Association, Dormaa Central Municipality, on behalf of the disabled persons, thanked the MCE for the kind consideration and urged the MCE to expedite action to acquire an office accommodation for the physically challenged in the municipality.
