France celebrating their win against Ghana.
Referee Nawaf Shukralla is being sanctioned for not sending off France?s two-goal hero Florian Thauvin in the 2-1 win over Ghana in the U20 World Cup semi-final match.
The Black Satellites saw their resurgence in the tournament in Turkey halted by the talented French team on Wednesday.
Many have alluded several reasons including the depletion of the Ghana team due to suspensions for the side?s failure to make a second final in the same competition within just four years.
FIFA is now considering handing heavy sanctions on referee Shukralla for not sending of two-goal hero Thauvin for a second bookable offence for his frantic celebrations which saw him pull off the corner flag pole.
?Right now in Istanbul the referee (Shukralla) is being sanctioned for failing to send off the French player for a second bootable offence,? Ghana U20 management committee chairman George Afriyie told Accra-based Asempa FM.
?It is against the rules to celebrate by pulling off the corner flag post and he was supposed to have been sent off for a second bookable offence.?
Thauvin was already on a yellow card when he opened the scoring two minutes before half time.
He thus should have been sent off when he went off to celebrate his opening goal by pulling off the corner flag post.
The French young player of the year edged his side back into the lead late in the game after Ghana had equalised through Ebenezer Assifuah ? a lead the Black Satellites failed to overcome to ultimately end it?s dream of winning a second U20 World Cup.
