Promoter SP Sports will stage a boxing show at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on 5 December 2026, aiming to build interest in the sport in northern Ghana.
Samuel Darkwah Agyei, Director of SP Sports, said the event is meant to take boxing to the north and give boxers there a chance to fight in front of home crowds. Ghana’s professional boxing has long been concentrated in Accra, particularly in the Bukom area, where most big fight nights are staged.
He said George Faho Mensah, whom he described as one of the country’s hardest-working boxers, is expected to headline the card. The rest of the fixtures are still being arranged, and the promoter has not yet named an opponent or said at which weight the main event will be fought.
The director said the north has strong young people who could be trained into champions. He praised Alhassan Waliwu for his work finding and developing amateur boxers in the area.
SP Sports works in sports management, promotion, branding and athlete marketing. The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, formerly the Tamale Sports Stadium, holds about 21,000 people and is home to football club Real Tamale United.
