The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has declared 2014 a year of ?progress and development based on discipline and orderliness.?
The Metropolitan Chief Executive for STMA, Captain (Rtd) Anthony Cudjoe, told the media in Takoradi on Tuesday that preliminary estimate for the decongestion exercise was GH?46,000.00.
He said the Assembly sought to ensure sanity in the Metropolis by clearing all unauthorized structures from the twin-city.
The Mayor asked for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a successful exercise.
?A city that is not well organised will slump into squalor therefore the Assembly and the Physical Planning Unit will use all lawful means to remove illegal structures from the city,? he said.
Capt. Cudjoe noted that some developers had developed hilly landscape along the Takoradi/Cape Coast highway, near Fijai Junction, and erected illegal metal structures there; adding that they would demolish them in due course.
He warned traders who had displayed their wares on push trucks at the Takoradi Market Circle to stop that practice since it had created congestion in the Central Business District.
The Mayor indicated that the Assembly would take decisive and action-oriented decisions that would better the lot of residents in the Metropolis.
