The Northern Regional Minister has said he was attacked by the recently elected Regional Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress, Gofred Wumbei, popularly known as ?Yellow?.
Mohammed Muniru Limuna said Wumbei and a colleague broke into his office and threw tantrums at him and also attempted slapping him, thus his resort to the Police to arrest the two men Friday night.
They were, however, freed by the Police Saturday after their supporters besieged the Police station.
?I was in a meeting with Nalerigu-Gambaga executives discussing a petition sent to the Office of the President demanding the removal of their District Chief Executive.
?Around 6pm while still meeting, I saw that there were people struggling with my bodyguard and all of a sudden I saw one of them push to open the door and started banging the table in front of me and stretching his hands to slap me,? Limuna alleged in an interview with Joy FM.
??So quickly I called the police to come in and pick them to go and detain them,? he explained.
?I am in government residency having a meeting and someone comes in from nowhere to attack me. This is an assault: even if I was not a Regional minister and I was attacked in my own house, I will still have taken this issue up,? the minister said.
Some supporters of Wumbei had claimed the Minister attempted influencing some delegates of the party to vote against Wumbei during the party?s regional conference, in which Wumbei emerged winner.
The election was, however, nullified following protests raised by Wumbei?s two other contestants.
Limuna said some of Wumbei?s supporters who besieged the Tamale Central Police station in anger, have expressed remorse for their premature action.
?Most of the youth who went out that night regretted taking those actions, some of them started calling and wanted to come to apologize and I said that is okay. They were misinformed but they should always do a sober reflection on any issue before they take action on them.?
