Swedish Minister of Health, Care and Public Health and Sport Gabriel Wikstrom said his government appreciates the relationship that exists between the two countries, adding his government wanted to increase investment in the country’s health sector to improve health care delivery.
The visiting Swedish minister, in remarks delivered when his delegation paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Minister of Health Joseph Kasonde, said the two countries face similar challenges in the health sector hence the need to work together to achieve a common goal.
“We are here to strengthen the relationship we have shared so that we can make it more concrete,” he was quoted as saying by the paper.
On his part, the Zambian minister thanked Sweden for being a key partner in the development of the country’s health sector.
“I am happy to state that the Swedish support which is coming directly to the expanded basket in the Ministry of Health has made and continues to make significant contributions towards improving the lives of many Zambians,” he said.
According to him, strengthening of health ties with Sweden will provide an opportunity to develop the health sector and that Zambia will continue to learn from Sweden’s experiences.
Zambia, he said, has experienced a rise in non-communicable diseases in recent years, a situation that has necessitated a number of interventions and a shift in the provision of health services. Enditem
