Thirteen (13) people on board two passengers’ car are feared dead after an articulated truck loaded with frozen fish overturned and landed on the two vehicles at the Lapaz end of the newly constructed N1 Highway also known as George W. Bush Highway.

The accident which occurred last night during a blackout in the area saw the driver of the articulated truck losing control of his break when moving his truck in a top speed while another car was simultaneously making a U-turn from the Achimota to Kwashieman end of the road.

In an attempt to avoid a possible head-on collision with the driver making U-turn, the articulated driver from the Kwashieman to Achimota end of the road skidded off the road and eventually turned on the two passenger cars including a Taxi and a mini urvan bus.

Meanwhile victims were trapped under the truck while lives were perishing minute-by-minute.

A combined workforce of Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service and other services were present to control the situation and eventually the bodies were conveyed to the morgue.

In the direction of reducing the rate of accidents on the highway, the Mayor of Accra, Mr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has affirmed the government’s decision to construct additional footbridges on the highway.

This recent accident on the 14.1 kilometer road is one of the major misfortunes that have involved innocent lives after its construction.
