The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) said on Thursday it had arrested 14 suspected illegal immigrants roasting corn along the ring road near Finance Quarters, Wuye District of the FCT.
This is contained in a statement, issued by Joe Ukairo, the Head of Information and Outreach Programme of the board in Abuja.
The statement said the board had handed them over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Department of the Nigeria Immigration Service, FCT Command, for further investigations.
“Some of the suspects, who claimed to be Nigerians, do not know the name of their local governments of origin as at the time of arrest.
“The suspects are undergoing further investigation with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), FCT Command.??
The statement said the joint effort of both the AEPB and FCT command of the NIS to checkmate illegal immigrants, street traders was achievable due to the close collaboration between the two agencies.
It reiterated that hawking, begging and trading in unauthorised places in the FCT remained prohibited.
