Two young men who allegedly snatched a taxi from its driver at gunpoint, after hiring his services at Dome, have been nabbed by the Mile7 District Police Command.
The suspects, Stephen Frimpong and Yaw Agyapong, allegedly took the vehicle to a fitting shop for re-spraying when the police spotted it.
Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Peter Yambillah, the Mile 7 district police commander, said suspect Yaw Agyapong, who sustained gunshot wounds after he attempted to escape, was currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.
On November 5, 2012, the taxi driver, Adoquaye Tetteh, driving a Nissan Almera with number GC3252-12 at Haatso, was hired by suspect Stephen Frimpong to Mile 7 in the evening.
On their way, the suspect made the taxi driver stop while he loaded some items into the vehicle.
Upon reaching Dome CFC, Stephen Frimpong picked up suspect Yaw Agyapong, his accomplice.
The two suspects, on reaching Mile 7, pulled a gun on the taxi driver, pushed him out of the vehicle and sped off with the vehicle.
The victim, after reporting the matter to the police, was advised to search for the vehicle at fitting shops.
During his search, the victim spotted the vehicle parked at a fitting shop at Kwabenya with a different number plate and re-prayed in a different colour.
The Mile 7 police were quickly informed about the development.
When police officers stormed the shop and inspected the chassis number of the car, it was identified as that of the victim?s car.
The mechanic was asked to call the owners of the vehicle to come for it and when the two appeared, the police apprehended them.
Suspect Yaw Agyapong attempted to escape but he was shot in the leg.
Police later found out that suspect Stephen Frimpong was a notorious car snatcher on the police wanted list.
Superintendent Yambillah urged victims of the duo to lodge a complaint at the police station.
