Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu on Tuesday declared 2 days work free holiday for Niger state civil servants. He said the work free days for them to get their permanent voters card.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel Ebije in Minna stated that the work free day starts from Friday and ends Monday.

Aliyu called on people to use the period between Friday to Monday to obtain their permanent voters cards adding that 4 days is enough to cover those yet to get the permanent voters card.

He said the exercise is important as records have shown that persons with permanent voters cards are not commensurate with the total number of registered voters. He said the need to encourage all registered voters to have permanent voters card cannot be overemphasised.

Aliyu however noted that the work free day only affects Niger state civil servants adding that other public and private organizations should go about their normal business.

‘Let me urge eligible voters to use the work free day to get their permanent voters cards. It is indeed instructive to intimate that without the permanent voters card, they will not be allowed to vote in the 2015 election.’

‘The period must be used to also sensitize people in the villages on the need to have the permanent voters card. Many people will be disenfranchised unless they pay attention to satisfying all the requirements of the 2015 election.’

He said the state government will do everything possible to ensure that nobody is disenfranchised adding that the permanent voters card will help stakeholders regardless of party affiliation the opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights at the polls.

He urged electorates to ensure they do the right thing adding that their vote is their power and would only be effective when they get the permanent voters card.
