In a season of hitting impressive milestones, breaking records and memorable plays, the Airtel Football team, left their mark in season IV of the BAM corporate football league over the weekend. The BAM Corporate league is an interactive networking football tournament between the banking Industry and the media Industry and is noted for its highly competitive nature.
Team Airtel made their second appearance this year, having placed fourth position last year. The team beat Royal Bank 3-0 to qualify for the quarter finals, by kind courtesy Lord Aboagye the captain of the team impressive goals.
The team maintained their winning ways by beating HFC Bank 5-3 on penalties after a goalless draw 90 minutes of power packed action in the semi-finals to qualify to the grand finals.
Team Airtel met with Prime FM in the finals, beating them 2-1 to be crowned 2014 champions of the BAM Corporate league. Airtel took the lead by scoring the first goal in the 30minutes of the first half with Prime FM equalizing in the 65th minutes of the second half of the much talked about finals.
Team Airtel lifted their game in the 70th minutes and in the 75th minutes they maintain their lead by scoring the second goal through the deputy captain of the team William Exopa to lift the cup of glory.
Commenting on the performance of the Airtel Football Team, Head of Corporate Communications and CSR of Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira congratulated his team for a wonderful display of football but charged the team not to go home and rest but rather work hard to defend the title in season V.
Currently the team is on a thank you tour and it preparing for pre-season training tour for its title defence.
